A sharp, numbing pain radiated across Shiloh's back as a cold sweat broke out over his forehead.
Winona's hands found the blood seeping through his shirt, and a wave of panic hit her. "Shiloh!"
Mrs. Mallory was still thrashing on the pavement, screaming at Winona like a lunatic. "Winona, why won't you just die?! You ruined my daughter, you deserve to burn in hell!"
A second later, Waldo gagged her with a handkerchief, cutting off her hysterical shrieks.
Winona quickly turned to Ezra. "Get Shiloh in the car and drive to the hospital, right now. As for Mrs. Mallory, hand her over to the police."
"Yes, ma'am."
Winona and Ezra helped Shiloh into the backseat. It was the closest Shiloh had ever been to her. The faint, elegant scent of her perfume washed over him, and somehow, the burning agony in his back seemed to dull.
Once they reached the hospital, the doctors immediately rushed Shiloh into a trauma room to treat the wound.
Winona and Ezra waited in the hallway.
It took over two hours before Shiloh was wheeled out and transferred to a standard room. Winona followed the stretcher inside. Seeing that Shiloh was still unconscious from the anesthetics, she pulled up a chair and waited.
A short while later, the door swung open, and a beautiful, impeccably dressed woman walked in.
Winona glanced over and found her face vaguely familiar.
Candida Winslow cast a dismissive glance at Shiloh lying on the bed. Assuming her cousin was just playing the martyr to win Winona's sympathy, she wasn't particularly worried about his injuries.
After a quick assessment of the room, she turned to Winona. "I'm Shiloh's cousin. Did he get hurt because of you?"
