The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 92

The next day, Winona arrived at work to find her desk covered in trash—takeout containers, used napkins, and empty latte cups.

Daphne walked over with a smirk. "Oh, sorry about that. We were working late last night and had too much stuff, so we just left it on your desk. We forgot to clean up. Could you be a dear and throw it out for us? You'll be kicked off the team soon anyway, so we're just getting a head start on using this empty space."

Winona stared at the greasy stains on her computer and keyboard, and the last thread of her patience snapped.

She swept all the trash into the bin under her desk, walked over to Daphne's workspace, and unceremoniously dumped the entire contents onto her desk. The smell of stale takeout was enough to make anyone sick.

Daphne shrieked, "Winona, are you insane!"

Winona let out a short, sharp laugh. "I'm just returning your 'gift.' What's the matter? You expect someone else to accept the very things you find disgusting?"

She returned to her desk, wiped it clean with sanitizing wipes, and then went to the restroom. She washed her hands over and over before she finally felt clean enough to leave.

Shortly after, she received a message from Goddard Group's administrative manager, asking her to come to his office. Winona headed over to the administrative department.

The manager said, "Ms. Jowett, everyone on your team is saying you deliberately targeted Tallulah and deleted her data. The security footage doesn't have anything to clear your name. For the good of the company, we'll have to ask you to temporarily leave the team until this matter is resolved."

"There's no need to investigate. I'm not leaving. And as for evidence? I have it."

She took out her laptop, opened a file, and showed him the data. "Last night, I was conducting a basic cell viability assay. It required me to observe morphological changes in the cells in real-time under a microscope and manually add reagents at specific time points to capture the exact moment of apoptosis. I ran the experiment three times. During that period, it was physically impossible for me to leave the lab to delete the data on Tallulah's computer. This is my alibi."

“She’s a victim here too,” Yulen said, exasperated. "We still haven't caught the person who actually deleted the data. Besides, she never explicitly said you did it. It was all just speculation from others."

"How convenient for her to be so innocent. Unfortunately for you, I don't believe a word of it."

Winona tried to walk away, but Yulen grabbed her wrist.

"Winona, Locke Group's interests are at stake. Can't you just take a step back, for me?"

"And why should I?" Winona shot back. "Are you that important?"
