"Why do you have to be so aggressive?" Yulen pressed on. "She's still young. Even if she made a mistake at work, can't you be a little more tolerant?"
Winona's question was sharp and direct. "You want me to tolerate her because she's important to you, right? Yulen, don't you think you're being a little too good to her?"
Yulen realized he'd lost his composure, but he quickly tried to backtrack, not wanting to give her any ammunition. "I'm just thinking about Locke Group," he argued.
Winona scoffed. "If you were really thinking about Locke Group, you'd be trying to find the person who actually deleted the data, not standing here harassing me. What's the point?"
Without giving him another look, Winona hailed a taxi and left.
Back home, she saw more passive-aggressive comments in the group chat, accusing her of forcing Tallulah and Daphne out.
Deciding she had no time for any of it, she silenced her phone, went to the kitchen, and heated up a mug of milk. As she drank, she scrolled through parenting articles, trying to learn as much as she could in advance.
She watched a video posted by a parenting vlogger, showing a tiny, adorable baby, and her heart instantly softened. Someday, she thought, her own baby would be just as adorable.

The next day at the office, Winona overheard people gossiping about her.
"Poor Tallulah, forced out by her. It's so unfair."
"The nice one leaves, and the awful one gets to stay."
"How did she even manage to push Tallulah out? She must have a powerful backer, right?"
At the restaurant, everyone found their own seats. Winona went to the restroom, and when she returned, the only open spot was next to Nolan, so she took it.
A short while later, Stefan entered. Dressed in a black suit, with his deep-set eyes and strong nose, he exuded an imposing, unapproachable aura. Winona was taking a sip of water when someone sat down beside her. She turned and froze for a second when she saw it was Stefan.
"Mr. Goddard," she said, her voice a little tense. If she had known this seat was right next to him, she would have sat somewhere else.
Stefan nodded slightly. "I heard you ran into some trouble at our subsidiary?"
Winona was surprised he even knew about her feud with Tallulah. She managed a smile. "It's nothing. It's all been resolved."
The people around them gasped, shocked to see her speaking so casually with Stefan. Could he be her powerful connection?
