The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 97

Winona was still dazed from the blast. As her vision cleared, she rubbed her eyes and lashed out at Tallulah. "Tallulah, have you forgotten the lab safety rules? Bringing your personal grudges in here… you’re insane!"

Tallulah smirked at her disheveled state. "I know the rules. But I did it on purpose. This is for humiliating me and my mother yesterday."

But Winona wasn't about to let her just walk away. Tallulah had destroyed all her hard work, and she was going to pay for it. She marched over, grabbed Tallulah by the collar, and slapped her twice across the face.

"You bitch!" Tallulah shrieked, lunging forward to grab a handful of Winona's hair.

As they struggled, the flames on the workbench spread to a stack of A4 paper and began to burn fiercely. A row of reagents toppled over, triggering another explosive flash. Winona immediately reacted, grabbing a nearby fire extinguisher to fight the blaze.

Terrified, Tallulah saw her chance. While Winona was distracted, she slipped out of the lab.

The chemical explosion had started a serious fire, and Winona couldn't contain it alone. Choking on the thick smoke, she was forced to retreat to the doorway.

The smoke alarm blared, and within five minutes, building security arrived to help extinguish the flames. Nolan came running, rushing to Winona's side. "Are you okay? What on earth happened? Why did a fire start?"

Winona leaned against the wall, about to explain, when a wave of dizziness washed over her. Her vision went black.

When she woke up, she was in a hospital room. Rhea sat beside her, her face etched with worry. "Winona, are you alright?"

After the hospital had called Winona's emergency contact, Rhea had rushed over immediately. Winona tried to speak, but her throat was raw and itchy, and the effort sent her into a coughing fit. A dull ache throbbed in her abdomen, and dread clenched in her chest. "Is my baby okay?"

Rhea’s hesitant expression only deepened Winona's fear. "Rhea, please, get the doctor."

Nolan frowned on the other end of the line. "We also questioned Tallulah. She claims she was only in the lab for five minutes and knows nothing about the fire. The lab's security camera was malfunctioning at the time, so we can't verify your story."

Winona's eyes were heavy with fatigue, but her voice was firm. "Tallulah is entirely responsible for this. I need you to keep investigating."

After hanging up, she lay quietly in bed, the dull ache in her abdomen a constant, painful reminder of her situation.

At eight-thirty that evening, Rhea arrived with dinner, her eyes blazing with indignation. "Winona, I just saw Yulen and Tallulah downstairs. It's sickening! She did this to you, and he's here doting on her! What a bastard!"

Winona no longer had the energy to hear about Yulen and Tallulah. She managed a bitter laugh. "Let them be."
