The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 96

Tallulah clung to her mother's arm, coaxing sweetly, "I know, Mom. I’ll listen to whatever you say."

As Blythe took out her card to pay, she spotted Winona. The warmth on her face vanished instantly, though she refrained from the usual harsh words. Instead, she walked over and said, "Winona, Tallulah tells me you're on the same team now. Since that's the case, I expect you to look after her. Don't you dare bully her, do you understand?"

She spoke as if her words were law, but Winona just gave her a cool, dismissive look. "Oh? And why would I do that?"

Her gaze shifted to Tallulah, dripping with scorn. "I’m not generous enough to look out for the woman who slept with my husband."

Blythe's eyes sharpened. "Is that any way to speak to your mother? You have no manners!"

"I save my manners for people who have class," Winona replied calmly. "Do you think you qualify?"

Blythe’s chest heaved with fury. "I know what you're angry about, but Tallulah and Yulen are the ones with a real connection. Your bitterness won't change anything. Take my advice: leave Yulen, find a man who’s right for you, and stop daydreaming about things you can never have."

Tallulah chimed in, "Winona, Mom is just looking out for you. She's afraid you'll go down the wrong path."

"The 'right path' is her telling you to become a mistress and seduce Yulen? Is that the superior upbringing she gave you?" Winona shot back. "I know exactly what path I'm on, and I don't need her guidance."

Both Blythe and Tallulah were stunned into silence, completely unprepared for her sharp tongue. Tallulah, desperate to save face, forced a smile. "What are you talking about? Anyway, since we ran into each other, why don't you come over for dinner tonight? Yulen's coming too. He’s going to introduce my dad to some new clients and resources."

Winona saw right through the boast, her expression turning even more disdainful. "You're all pathetic. Yulen leeches off his three sisters, and you two leech off him. You’re all just living off each other, and somehow you’re proud of it."

After what happened at the shoe store, Tallulah was even worse at work the next day. She constantly used the project as an excuse to find fault with Winona's work. But Winona didn't indulge her, shutting her down with professional expertise until Tallulah was left speechless. After a few rounds of this, Tallulah finally backed off.

Winona ignored her and focused on her tasks. After finishing a proposal, she headed for the lab, only to find Tallulah standing by the door, cooing into her phone with Yulen. "You don't have to come pick me up, it would be awkward if Winona saw you. I can get home by myself. And yes, don't worry, I'll be a good girl and eat properly."

Pretending she hadn't heard, Winona walked straight into the lab.

After finishing her call, Tallulah followed her inside. Seeing Winona completely absorbed in her tests, a malicious idea crossed her mind. She deliberately grabbed a bottle of a strong oxidizing agent and walked over to Winona's station. Then, feigning a stumble, she "accidentally" spilled the chemical into the test tubes on Winona's desk.

With a sudden whoosh and a flash of light, Winona instinctively recoiled, startled by the flare-up in front of her.
