The Wife He Forgot to Marry novel Chapter 98

All she wanted now was to rest and save her baby.

Over the next few days, Yulen called her repeatedly, but Winona ignored every call. Then the texts started. "Winona, where are you? Answer the phone."

"How could you tell Nolan that Tallulah started the fire?"

"It was an accident. I’ll explain everything to Nolan and cover all the damages so you won't be held responsible, but you can't go around falsely accusing Tallulah."

Reading the messages, Winona was almost numb to how fiercely Yulen defended Tallulah. No matter what mess Tallulah made, he would be there to clean it up.

Two weeks later, Winona was finally discharged. Rhea came to pick her up.

As they were leaving the hospital, they saw Yulen and Tallulah, who were there for a prenatal check-up.

Spotting Winona, Yulen hurried over. "Winona, are you sick too? Why haven't you been answering my calls?"

Winona ignored him, her expression cold and distant.

Tallulah shot Winona a contemptuous look before plastering on an innocent expression. "Winona, everyone on the team has been saying you caused the lab fire through your own mistake. All the equipment and data we lost… Yulen paid for everything. I'm just worried the others will alienate you when you go back. Maybe you should consider quitting the team."

Rhea exploded. "You're the one who caused all of this, and you have the nerve to stand there and gloat!"

Tallulah shrank behind Yulen, feigning fear. "I was just telling the truth. Why are you yelling at me?"

Yulen turned to Winona, his voice gentle but patronizing. "Tallulah has a point. You haven't worked in a while, so jumping back into R&D must be stressful. Why don't you go back to how things were? Stay at home, focus on your hobbies. What do you think?"

"Yulen, stay out of my business," Winona said flatly. "You just worry about your precious Tallulah."

Her eyes flickered to Tallulah's stomach, a wry smile on her lips. "This isn't the first time I've seen you at the OB-GYN clinic. Don't tell me you two have a baby on the way behind my back?"

Yulen's face darkened, his tone sharpening. "Winona, what are you talking about?"

The next day, when Winona returned to work, her colleagues all gave her strange looks.

She tried to go to the lab, but Nolan stopped her. "Winona, for the next week, I need you to stay out of the lab."

Winona was taken aback. "Why?"

"Until the investigation is complete, neither you nor Tallulah are allowed in the lab," Nolan said, his expression serious. Although Mr. Goddard seemed to favor Winona, Nolan was strictly impartial when it came to official matters.

Winona knew there was no point in arguing. She had to find a way to prove her innocence.

Since the lab was off-limits, she decided to focus on organizing her files. She returned to her desk, her expression unreadable.

Her colleague Veda noticed the faint needle marks on the back of her hand. "Winona, what happened to your hand?" she asked curiously.

Just then, Yulen walked in to discuss business with Nolan. He overheard the question and his eyes flickered to Winona's hand.
