Natalie had just finished her chocolate mousse and was wiping her mouth with a napkin, planning to head to the restroom to touch up her lipstick.
A tall figure cast a heavy shadow over her. She looked up, saw it was Jude Sheridan, and immediately stepped back to create distance.
She genuinely had no desire to interact with this lunatic.
Especially not after that night.
The memory of the bite mark on the back of her neck still made her stomach turn.
"Why are you hiding, Mrs. Carlson? It's not like I harmed a single hair on your head."
Natalie froze, looking up to meet his gaze directly. "You didn't harm a single hair on my head?"
She let out a scoff. "Jude, you know exactly what you did."
Jude leaned in slightly. "Don't tell me you're blaming me for whatever Hassan did to you."
She paused, her brows knitting together. "What do you mean by that?"
He shrugged. "I don't mean anything."
He raised his wine glass and lightly clinked it against hers. His gaze drifted over to where Hassan was standing. Waiting until Hassan looked in their direction, Jude tilted his head toward Natalie and raised a mocking eyebrow.
Natalie set her glass down. After clinking glasses with Jude, she lost any appetite to drink.
She was just about to walk the other way.
Suddenly, a waiter appeared out of nowhere and slammed right into her.
The dessert cart tipped over completely, splashing liquid all over Natalie's red gown. Surrounded by shattered glass and smashed cake, she didn't dare to move.
Hassan stepped forward and grabbed Natalie's wrist. "Have you had enough? The Carlson family's business partners are here tonight. Can you handle the consequences of acting like a maniac?"
"How am I acting like a maniac?" Her gaze drifted naturally toward Jacob. "Didn't he just get into a fistfight with his best friend over a mistress? Tell me where I'm wrong."
Jacob had been annoyed with Natalie for a long time, and being dragged into this instantly made his blood boil. "You're here trying to stir up trouble again?! You're disgusting. When are you ever going to fix your toxic personality? No wonder Hassan doesn't have an ounce of feelings for you."
Jude let out a dark chuckle. "Jacob, you've got it wrong. You should say compared to Gardenia, he doesn't have an ounce of feelings for Natalie. But compared to other random women, he definitely has a little bit."
Jude's words were intended to cut even deeper.
But before Natalie could react, Mia Sheridan suddenly tossed a glass of red wine right onto Jude's shirt.
Mia stared at him, her little face deadly serious. "Don't bully Natalie."
Jude looked down at his stained shirt, but instead of anger, a low chuckle escaped him, entirely devoid of his usual hostility.
