Nancy suddenly remembered something. "Oh, by the way. After I signed that contract the other day, I was followed."

Natalie looked alarmed. "When?"

"I went to the supermarket yesterday and noticed someone tailing me. I thought it was a random creep, but when I confronted them, they admitted Gardenia sent them."

Nancy had been terrified, dreading that it was *that* person from her past. Realizing it was just Gardenia actually brought her a wave of relief.

Natalie realized what was happening. "She must have hired someone to track Seven."

She immediately regretted asking Nancy to sign the contract on her behalf. "You need to lay low for a while and stay indoors. If you need anything, just tell me."

Nancy nodded in agreement. She felt she had been exposing herself a little too much lately anyway.

That evening, Natalie returned to Sycamore Quays, planning to search the bed for a stray hair from Hassan. However, the sheets were freshly changed and completely spotless.

It was obvious Mary had cleaned the room. Mary was a gentle, hardworking maid who had been hired at the same time as Laura.

Natalie had never paid much attention to the staff dynamics before, but now it was glaringly obvious that Laura was slacking off and dumping all the work on Mary.

She walked over to Laura's quarters, knocked, and waited for her to open the door. "Laura, you didn't clean the master bedroom today, did you?"

Laura's eyes darted nervously. "I... yes, I did."

"Don't lie to me. I can tell. If I catch you doing this again, you're fired."

Natalie's tone was razor-sharp. "If you feel you're being overworked here, you are more than welcome to quit."

Usually, it was just her and Hassan at home, yet they had four live-in staffs. Laura and Mary handled the first floor, while the other two managed the second. On top of that, the butler from the main estate sent a crew every week for a deep clean. The four maids here had it incredibly easy with fantastic pay.

The moment Natalie mentioned firing her, Laura immediately shut her mouth.

Hassan didn't come home for dinner, and it wasn't until Cecily called to pressure him that he finally walked through the door late that night.

When he returned, the lingering scent of Gardenia's perfume clung to him.

When he returned and slid into bed, Natalie caught the familiar scent of her own body wash on him.

She immediately turned her back to him, pulling the blanket up to cover her mouth and nose. If she could, she would have zipped herself inside a quarantine bubble so she wouldn't have to look at him or smell him.

Unfortunately, that wasn't an option.

The next morning, Natalie put on a sleek V-neck silk blouse paired with khaki tailored trousers, tying a subtle, muted-tone scarf around her neck to complete the look. She put on some light makeup and tied her hair back in a low ponytail. She was determined to slowly reclaim the woman she used to be.

She walked out of the bedroom, intending to grab some breakfast.

Only to find Gardenia and Adrian standing right in the middle of her living room.

The boy had his backpack on, clearly waiting for Hassan to drive him to school.

Laura was trying to coax the kid into eating some breakfast.
