Eventually, after returning to Sycamore Quays one evening, Natalie managed to secure a strand of Hassan's hair with the follicle still attached. Just as she suspected, Laura had been slacking off and hadn't cleaned properly.

She carefully stored the hair away.

Early the next morning, Natalie went straight to the research institute after breakfast and stayed in the lab until the afternoon. She received a text from Cora Vance asking if she could pick up Mia from school. Cora was stuck working overtime at the TV station and couldn't get away.

Natalie understood immediately. Cora wouldn't have reached out to her unless she had absolutely no one else to ask.

She knew that the Sheridan Family had originally forbidden Cora from working. Cora had practically begged for this job, and now she was forced to juggle her career and her daughter. If the Sheridans found out she had neglected Mia because of work, they would undoubtedly force her to quit.

Natalie sighed and agreed, as she was about to get off work anyway.

On her way out, she bumped into Marvin Ford. "Where are you headed?" he asked.

"I need to go to the school and pick up Mia Sheridan," Natalie replied.

"Want a ride?" Marvin pointed toward the parking garage. "I noticed you didn't drive today."

Natalie had woken up right during rush hour, so she had taken the subway to avoid the traffic.

She nodded. "If it's on your way, I'd appreciate it. Thank you."

Marvin smiled, his tone bright. "It's on the way. Plus, there's something I've been wanting to talk to you about."

"Oh? What is it?"

Once they got in the car, Marvin cleared his throat. "Remember when I said I was going to set Hassan up with someone? I knew perfectly well he'd never agree to it. I only said it to piss you off. It was just a stupid joke, but it was still a jerk move. I'm really sorry."

"It's fine, I get it," Natalie replied. She genuinely didn't care about the incident anymore, keeping her eyes glued to her phone, though she didn't explicitly offer forgiveness either.

Marvin nervously glanced over at her a few times.

The drive to the school was smooth. The streets outside were lined with luxury cars, some even adorned with custom doodles for the kids, proving just how much these parents spoiled their children.

Marvin parked the car and walked toward the entrance with Natalie.

Natalie looked at him. "Do you want to just wait in the car? The sun is pretty brutal out here."
