Yet, his heart was beating faster and faster, completely out of his control.
Marvin Ford occasionally saw flashes of Hassan Carlson in Natalie Thornton, especially when she was patiently teaching others.
Hassan held absolute authority in their social circle, and beyond his status, it was because anyone who worked or studied with him ended up conquered by his sheer depth of knowledge. He was like an omnipotent database; no matter the subject, he could speak on it effortlessly.
Even though they were the same age, they operated on entirely different levels, which was why people often said Hassan was lonely.
Because of that, everyone thought it was wonderful that Gardenia Sutton could be by his side. They seemed like soulmates.
But Marvin was starting to have a different thought altogether.
He felt that Natalie was far more captivating than Gardenia.
If even he—someone who hadn't interacted with Natalie all that deeply—felt this way, what about Hassan? Did Hassan truly not have a single ounce of affection for her?
Especially since Natalie had once loved him so fiercely and genuinely.
He hadn't thought much of it before, but now, whenever Marvin thought about the intense love she had poured into Hassan, an inexplicable sting of sour jealousy flared in his chest.
He wanted to stand in that position. He wanted to be the one receiving her passionate love.
"Hey, watch your step!" Natalie scratched her head as she watched Marvin trip over flat ground. "What's got you in such a rush?"
Tripping over absolutely nothing didn't seem normal.
She didn't think too much of his strange behavior in the moment.
But as the afternoon wore on, Natalie clearly noticed that Marvin kept avoiding her gaze.
Finding it odd, she took the initiative to ask, "Is there an issue with the documents?"
