"Marvin? What are you guys doing here?"
They were in the middle of a pleasant meal when a sudden voice cut through the air.
Natalie didn't even need to turn around to know who it was.
A wave of exhaustion washed over her. How did they always manage to run into them?
She glanced over. Gardenia was still wearing her simple white button-down and black trousers from work. If you didn't look closely, you wouldn't notice the prosthetic leg below her right knee. She looked exactly like a seasoned corporate elite.
Adrian Sutton was also dressed in a little white shirt and black shorts. He was holding Hassan's hand. The man had his suit jacket draped over his arm, and the top two buttons of his fresh dress shirt were undone.
Away from the office, he carried the lazy, relaxed aura of high society, his striking appearance and demeanor clashing completely with the humble surroundings of the restaurant.
Gardenia stood in front of Marvin and turned to Hassan. "Should we share a table?"
"No," the man declined coolly, pulling out a chair at the adjacent table.
Casual restaurants didn't offer the attentive service of fine dining, so he casually draped his own jacket over the back of his chair. His expression remained indifferent, betraying no sign of dissatisfaction.
He didn't spare a single glance for Natalie, keeping his eyes lowered on the menu.
The two tables were barely a meter apart.
Even though Natalie focused on her own food, she could clearly hear Gardenia's voice. "You know what I like, so I'll leave the ordering to you."
"Mhm," he replied flatly.
Gardenia turned back toward their table. "Marvin, it looks like since you started dating Nancy, your relationship with Natalie has gotten much better. You're even having dinner together. But why is it just the two of you?"
Marvin brushed his thumb against his phone. "Nancy had something come up suddenly. She couldn't make it."
Gardenia kept her polite smile. "Speaking of which, I'm actually quite curious. When did you and Nancy meet? Nancy is Seven... by all logic, the two of you shouldn't have ever crossed paths."
