She locked her phone without replying.

Staring at the ceiling, Natalie forced herself to clear her mind and sleep. She would deal with everything when she woke up tomorrow.

In the middle of the night, Natalie heard a doorbell ring. She thought she was dreaming.

Until she heard footsteps.

She slowly opened her eyes. By the moonlight filtering in through the window, she saw a tall man standing by the bed, staring heavily down at her.

Startled, Natalie quickly sat up. Before she could even process what was happening, the man grabbed her wrist and pulled her up.

His voice was ice-cold. "Come home to sleep."

Natalie couldn't shake off his grip, kicking and thrashing. "Let me go!"

Tilda and Kern had also come out. Tilda's face was cold. "What are you doing? Don't you know her knees are injured? Stop pulling her like that."

The man froze, his gaze finally shifting down to her knees.

Natalie had beautiful, luminous legs, perfectly proportioned. But right now, both of her knees were horribly swollen, with bloody indentations and deep purple bruising blooming all around them.

The aura around him plummeted to a freezing low. His thin lips parted, his voice laced with absolute cold. "Who did this?"

Natalie scoffed and turned her face away, refusing to answer. She just kept yanking her arm back.

Hassan looked at the couple. "I'll take care of her. I won't trouble you any longer."

As he looked away, his eyes landed pointedly on Tilda. "I expect you to keep your distance."

Natalie's body stiffened, a chill gripping her heart. "What gives you the right to tell my family to stay away from me!"

The man cast a glance at her, then bent down and scooped her into his arms.

As she squirmed and struggled, he warned her in a hushed tone, "Do you want to cause trouble for her? I don't mind helping you with that."

Natalie gripped his shirt tightly, gritting her teeth in silence, not daring to struggle anymore.

Back at Sycamore Quays, he laid her gently on the bed and stood up to get the first-aid kit.

"Stop pretending to care!" Natalie snapped. "I already put medicine on them."

She threw the covers off and lay back weakly. She was exhausted—physically and mentally drained.

With her eyes closed, she heard Cup, who had snuck in at some point, whining by the bed with a wagging tail. She let one hand dangle off the edge of the mattress, allowing the puppy to lick her fingers, feeling a brief flicker of warmth in her heart.
