Natalie's fingertips turned white from gripping the armrest, her eyes locked on the dark depths of the steel mill. Her throat tightened, every second of waiting feeling like absolute torture.
Just as the crushing anxiety felt suffocating, the car door finally opened from the outside. A gust of wind carrying the heavy scent of iron rust blew in, whipping her hair wildly against her cheeks.
She looked up. The tall, imposing man stood there holding the child, his entire being radiating a suffocating, glacial fury.
Adrian was clearly traumatized, his tiny fists clutching the front of the man's shirt tightly. His frantic, gasping sobs made Natalie's heart twist in pity.
Gardenia stood beside them, her face streaked with tears and looking utterly pathetic. She was shivering violently, clinging desperately to the man's arm.
But the look he gave Natalie was bone-chilling. His gaze was like a poisoned blade, plunging straight into her heart.
Before Natalie could even open her mouth, Gardenia broke free from Julian's supportive grip. Sobbing hysterically, she rushed to the car and pointed a trembling finger right in Natalie's face.
"I have tolerated you time and time again! But you couldn't even spare an innocent child! Get out of the car! I refuse to ride with you!"
"Hold on," Natalie said, a flash of pure mockery cutting through her eyes. "What exactly do I gain from kidnapping you? I've already signed the divorce papers. I don't need to lay a finger on you. Also, do you have a single shred of proof that it was me?"
She paused, shifting her gaze to Hassan's clenched jaw. "And you. You saw the photos of Chloe. She has always been jealous of me. Jealous that I married you, jealous of everything I had by your side. Did it seriously never cross your mind to suspect her?"
Gardenia lunged forward, grabbing Natalie's clothes in a wild attempt to physically drag her out of the car. Natalie wasn't about to let her succeed and shoved her back hard.
Because Gardenia's custom prosthetic was still being manufactured, she was currently using a temporary one. Caught off balance by the push, she completely lost control and crashed heavily onto the pavement. "My leg! It hurts so much! Ahhh!"
She curled into a ball on the ground, her face twisted in absolute agony, her muscles visibly shaking.
