Natalie let out a soft, mocking laugh. "You were completely engrossed in your conversation over there. Do you have eyes in the back of your head? How can you be so sure your kid spilled it accidentally and not on purpose?"

"Adrian isn't that kind of child," Gardenia shot back. "He's emotionally detached. There's no way he would intentionally pour milk on you!"

"Just because he's emotionally detached doesn't mean he can't follow orders. Who's to say you didn't tell him to do it!"

"Enough." The man's voice was low. His dark, fathomless eyes swept over her, carrying an intimidating weight.

Hassan handed Adrian over to a maid. "Take him to get cleaned up."

Then, he looked at Natalie, a hint of exhausted frustration settling between his brows. "Natalie, it was a minor accident. Do you really have to turn it into some wild conspiracy?"

"Hassan!" Cecily pulled Natalie behind her. "Remember who your wife is. Remember who you're supposed to be protecting."

"Does she need my protection? She seems more than capable of talking back," the man said flatly, his tone laced with sarcasm.

Natalie didn't even blink. Her eyes felt unbearably dry, and her fingers crushed the soaked tissues into a tight, soggy ball.

"I could be the best talker in the world, and I still wouldn't win against you," she breathed out, her filter completely gone. "You take someone else's side, and you expect me to play the fool? To just be a spineless doormat? Don't you think you're asking for too much? I'll never be your doormat. If you want a wife who grovels at your feet, go to the dump and find one. There are plenty of women out there who would drop to their knees and obey your every word just for a meal!"

She noticed a vein twitching at his temple, though he maintained his outward composure. "Go upstairs and change."

He gripped her wrist tightly and dragged her toward the stairs.

Just as Gardenia took a step forward, Cecily stopped her. "Ms. Sutton, let's have a word."
