Gardenia offered a strained smile. "It's just a short walk."

She lived in Sycamore Quays as well.

Right before walking out, Jacob suddenly looked back at Hassan. "Oh, by the way, Natalie isn't going to the launch, is she? I really don't want to run into a certain someone. Hmph."

Natalie flashed a brilliant smile. "Well, now I'm absolutely going. Faye, see the guests out!"

Jacob rolled his eyes at her. He slammed the door shut, leaving one final parting shot: "Keep acting tough. You won't be the lady of the house for much longer."

With the toxic energy finally gone, Natalie turned back to her food. She needed to build her strength and ensure she was in top form for tomorrow's performance.

Faye had just placed a fresh bowl in front of her when the man's even voice broke the silence: "Serve another bowl."

Faye blinked in surprise. In all her time working here, she had never seen Hassan eat a late-night snack.

She immediately hurried back to the kitchen to fetch another serving.

But the moment the second bowl touched the table...

Natalie downed hers in one gulp, slammed her empty bowl onto the table, and stormed straight to her bedroom without a word.

The atmosphere in the room instantly grew thick and suffocating.

Under the warm glow of the chandelier, the man lowered his eyes. His impeccably carved features exuded a cold desolation. His thick lashes cast faint shadows on his cheekbones, accentuating the sharp, brooding intensity of his face.

His slender fingers gripped the porcelain spoon. He started to lift it, but then slowly set it back down.

The handle clinked sharply against the rim of the bowl.

Without uttering a single sound, the man stood up and retreated to his study.
