Hassan said calmly, "Please continue. I'd like to hear it too."

Adler gave him an extra glance.

He had to admit, the man had incredibly strong psychological fortitude. After everything Adler had said, Gardenia's face had already fallen, but Hassan remained perfectly composed, showing no signs of displeasure.

"I also heard that neighbor say that people like that will eventually get what's coming to them." He sighed, looking at the two of them in turn. "You both should probably go to church and pray for some forgiveness."

At this point, Gardenia understood completely. Professor Adler clearly believed the rumors online and was deliberately bringing them up to make things difficult for them.

She clutched her clothes tightly before releasing them. "Professor Adler, I thought that as fellow researchers, we both valued evidence. I didn't expect you to be someone who listens to gossip."

Adler glanced at her, leaning back leisurely and closing his eyes. "Isn't that child the evidence? Sigh, it makes me think of my own daughter. If she got married and something like this happened, I would force her to get a divorce no matter what."

Natalie had been listening the whole time, her eyes growing a little hot and a sour ache forming in her chest. So this was what it felt like to be protected.

She closed her eyes, only to hear Hassan's voice again. "Professor Adler, how old is your daughter?"

Natalie opened her eyes, unsure why he was asking such a question.

Professor Adler spoke up, "Why do you need to know? My daughter won't ever cross paths with you anyway."

After that, silence fell. No one said another word.

Sitting on the plane, Natalie looked out the window. Vast stretches of soft white clouds spread out like a boundless field of cotton. The sunlight slanted across the cloud layer, gilding the fluffy surface with warm gold. It was a radiant white, layers upon layers of clouds, gentle yet magnificent.

In that moment, the gloom in her heart was completely swept away.

When disembarking, Natalie walked down first.

She sent Adler a message, and they agreed to meet directly in the hotel lobby.

After sending the text, she headed straight out of the airport.

Her foreign language skills were fluent enough for free communication, and she regularly read research papers in other languages, so heading to the hotel alone was not an issue at all.

Once she got into a car, she received a message from Professor Adler.
