Intrigued—and not actually stingy over a single piece of candy—Marvin tossed one over. It landed perfectly on Hassan's desk.

Hassan rolled it between his fingers. Confirming it was the exact same brand Natalie had been obsessed with lately, he asked casually, "Where did you buy this?"

It wasn't a brand you could just pick up at an everyday convenience store.

Marvin opened his mouth to say it was a special stock from the research institute's commissary, and that he usually grabbed a couple of bags whenever he bought water.

But in a split second, he remembered he had been secretly leaving these on Natalie's desk lately. To cover his tracks, he had even handed them out to everyone else in the lab.

Jett had even joked that Marvin was running a wholesale candy business.

"It's just a regular supermarket brand, but it's pretty pricey, so you don't see it everywhere."

Hassan—a man who stepped foot into a supermarket maybe three times a year—naturally had no reason to doubt him.

He had zero clue where this candy actually came from.

If it wasn't a top-tier, globally ranked confectionery brand, it wasn't on his radar.

Noticing Hassan had stopped asking, Marvin pushed his luck. "Why the sudden interest in gummies?"

Hassan lowered his gaze, closing the file in his hand and setting it aside. "Natalie's been eating them a lot lately."

Inside, Marvin was doing a victory dance, but he kept his face completely neutral. "But... aren't you two getting a divorce? Why do you care what she eats?"

Hassan opened a new folder. He stared at the black-and-white text in silence for a long moment before lifting his eyes. "Even if we sign the papers tomorrow, she still can't cheat today."

Marvin couldn't hold his tongue any longer. "What about you and Gardenia?"

Hassan narrowed his eyes. "Why are you bringing her up?"

"Everyone says you and Gardenia are an item. You even brought her kid home! Isn't that literal infidelity?"

Hassan slowly placed the cap back onto his fountain pen. "Adrian is six years old. Natalie and I have been married for four. There was no infidelity during our marriage."

Marvin was rendered completely speechless. Technically, Hassan wasn't lying.

The rumors online all claimed he had an illegitimate child, but the math proved the boy was born well before the wedding. At worst, it meant Hassan had slept with someone prior to marrying Natalie and fathered a child.

"Alright, I'm clocking out and heading home." Hassan tore open a wet wipe, cleaned his hands, tossed it into the trash, and walked toward the door.
