In the group chat, a few teammates were asking how Natalie was holding up.

When she had gone back to grab her keys earlier, she hadn't mentioned being harassed or ending up at the precinct. She just told them she wasn't feeling well and needed to head home.

They had likely wrapped up their night and were checking in on her.

Shortly after, Marvin Ford sent her a private message, asking what was wrong and if it was serious.

But Natalie had already drifted off to sleep.

Anxious, Marvin ended up calling Hassan.

When the line connected, Marvin suddenly found himself tongue-tied, unsure of how to ask his real question.

What he actually wanted to know was: *Did Natalie go see Hassan?*

Knowing Hassan had a fever, it made sense that she would rush to his side.

Marvin had seen how deeply Natalie used to care about him.

Forget a high fever—back when they used to grab drinks together, if Hassan merely had one too many, Natalie would hover over him, feeding him honey water and softly playing with his fingers to keep him grounded.

"What is it?" Hassan asked, breaking the silence.

"Uh, yeah," Marvin replied. "Aren't you sick? I was thinking of coming to see you."

"I told you it wasn't necessary," Hassan said flatly.

"Which hospital are you at?" Marvin pressed.

"I'm not at the hospital. I'm at the office."

"You have a fever and you're still at the office?"

"It's just a fever. I took some medicine. I'm already recovering."

"Your voice sounds like gravel, and you're telling me you're recovering? Are you kidding me? I'm coming over. I'll just stay for a second!"

Marvin hung up, his heart racing.

He felt a twinge of guilt for being nosy, but he desperately needed to know if Natalie was there with him.

Why else would she have just grabbed her phone and left?

Marvin arrived at Hassan's office in record time.

He pushed the door open.

After a quick scan of the room, he let out a quiet breath of relief.
