Gardenia stared at her, her tone full of feigned shock. "What are you playing at? Yesterday, Mr. Carlson and I discussed work in the elevator, which you knew about. Later, Zeke delivered the documents to your house, and Hassan didn't go back until a while after that. You definitely looked at them then, right? You had plenty of time to snoop. And as for surveillance? You know perfectly well there are no cameras in your house."

Hassan grabbed Natalie's wrist. "You need to rest right now. I'll handle things here."

"Handle it? You want me to step aside now? Are you planning to send me to prison later?"

Hassan's pupils trembled. He dropped his voice, a raw, hoarse edge to it. "What did you just say? Send you to prison?"

His throat felt tight, as if scorched, making it impossible to speak.

Natalie glared at him coldly. "Isn't that exactly what you and Gardenia want? Setting up this elaborate trap just for me."

The man tightened his grip on her wrist, veins instantly bulging on the back of his hand. "Why would I need to stage all of this to ruin you? Do you have any idea how much money the Carlson Family is losing because of this?"

"Right. Before, I might not have believed it. But now? How many times have you broken your own principles for Gardenia? You've done so many absurd things for her already; why wouldn't you do one more?"

The "absurd things" Natalie referred to were the times Hassan had helped Gardenia cheat, like buying a robot off the dark web to take her place in a competition, or pulling strings to get her into the Kingswood Arts Center, completely stealing Natalie's spot.

One thing after another. None of them seemed like something Hassan would ever do, yet he had done every single one.

For Gardenia, Hassan was capable of anything.

Hassan narrowed his eyes and suddenly let out a low, breathless laugh.

A turbulent storm of emotions swirled in the depths of his dark, bottomless eyes.

He gripped her wrist so tightly that Natalie felt as though her bones were going to shatter.

Still holding her, Hassan looked around the room at everyone present. "I will contact the authorities. Once the culprit is found, they will be severely punished. The Carlson Group will not spare anyone who betrays us. Turning yourself in might be the only way to get a lighter sentence."

No one in the room uttered a word.
