"Natalie," Hassan warned, his voice dropping an octave.
She offered a slow, deliberate smile. "What's wrong? Big boss?"
"Cecily said she is going to investigate this thoroughly. All the maids at home are waiting for us right now," he said dismissively.
Saying goodbye to Ferris, Natalie eventually followed him.
Back at Sycamore Quays.
Cecily sat on the sofa, rubbing her temples in distress while nursing her tea, the household staff lined up in front of her.
It seemed she hadn't managed to squeeze anything useful out of them.
"No outsiders came in. How did anyone get to those documents? It's absolute nonsense!" She slammed her teacup heavily onto the coffee table, looking increasingly agitated.
Natalie walked over, observing the maids who stood with their heads bowed.
Hassan sat beside his grandmother, gently massaging her shoulders. "Don't worry too much. It might not have even happened here in the house."
Cecily knew he was just trying to comfort her.
She sighed heavily. "Tell me, how did it come to this? A perfectly fine bidding conference ruined just like that. I'm so stressed my hair is turning white! The Carlson Group has never made an error like this before!"
Looking around, Natalie asked, "Where is Adrian?"
"I had the driver take him to the family estate. It wasn't appropriate for him to see this kind of scene today," Cecily explained.
Even though Adrian wasn't like other children, Cecily still tried her best to raise him like a normal boy.
Natalie nodded. "I'm going to go change."
She went into the master bedroom, took a shower, and changed into a set of casual loungewear.
For the first time, she stepped into Adrian's room.
The space was designed with light natural wood tones, creating a clean and open layout. A reading nook sat by the bed, complete with a knit cushion and stacks of picture books. There were no overly complicated decorations. The two recessed walls featured built-in shelving, neatly lined with all sorts of books and assembled models of cars, robots, and rockets.
Natural light poured through the sheer curtains, making the room bright and comfortable—a perfect environment for a child to grow up in.
Such thoughtful, loving design only made Natalie's heart twinge with pain again.
This room was originally meant for her child.
She forced a bitter smile. What was the point of dwelling on that now? She and Hassan were never going to have a child anyway.
