Natalie sneered. "I know perfectly well."

She gripped her purse and kept walking, the sharp click-clack of her heels echoing down the hallway.

Hassan stood still, his eyes fixed on her retreating silhouette.

She was dressed in a sleek blush-pink suit skirt, her chestnut hair tied in a low ponytail, the loose curls swaying gently against the small of her back.

The skirt hugged her figure perfectly, revealing a pair of long, flawless legs, her porcelain skin practically glowing under the lights, ending at perfectly delicate ankles.

Hassan trailed behind her, his suit jacket draped casually over his forearm. His shirt collar was still crumpled from where Jude had grabbed him, and his tie hung loose, but he couldn't care less about looking presentable right now.

He followed her in heavy silence, his eyes shadowed and unreadable.

Once they were both inside the car, he tossed his jacket over her lap.

Natalie stared blankly at the heavy fabric resting over her legs.

The jacket carried the faint, cool cedar scent that always lingered on him—a crisp, detached fragrance that somehow felt overwhelmingly suffocating right now.

She grabbed the coat and threw it right back at him.

The man spoke in a slow, detached drawl. "You're not cold?"

It was already late autumn, and the temperature outside had dropped significantly.

Natalie had always chosen fashion over comfort. The places she usually frequented were heavily heated anyway, so she rarely bothered wearing thick clothes.

"I'm not cold." Even if she was freezing to death right now, her pride would never let her admit it.

Hassan let out a faint, dismissive scoff. "There's no need to freeze yourself just to prove a point."

But he didn't push it any further.

The jacket stayed on his side of the seat.

The rest of the drive passed in dead silence.

When they arrived back at Sycamore Quays, Cecily and Adrian were sitting in the living room, watching the news.

Hearing the door open, Cecily turned her head and instantly locked in on the broken skin at the corner of Hassan's mouth.
