However, since Jacob had always treated her like garbage, Natalie didn't bother overthinking it.

Jacob finally backed down at Hassan's command, slumping into his seat with his head lowered. He didn't utter another word, but his face was so thunderous you'd think everyone at the table owed him millions.

Natalie frowned. "Why were you two fighting?"

It seemed to be the only thing she actually cared about.

Jude had completely dropped his usual playboy persona. He sat in brooding silence, his eyes still rimmed with red.

She had never seen him like this before. Even when he was forced to watch Gardenia choose Hassan, Jude hadn't looked this broken.

She strongly suspected he had just experienced something far more devastating than anything involving Gardenia.

Hassan glanced at Jude, his tone dangerously calm. "That's what happens when some people get too greedy, isn't it?"

Jude let out a dark, humorless laugh. "Fine. I won't be greedy. But you better remember exactly what you just promised me. Do not touch my things!"

Natalie narrowed her eyes coldly, leaning back in her chair as she watched the two men.

She instinctively assumed Jude was referring to Gardenia.

Under the table, she pulled out her phone and sent Jude a text.

[So, how did the negotiations go?]

Jude's phone buzzed.

Hassan shot her a freezing glare. "We are all sitting in the same room. Whatever you have to say, say it out loud."

"Even if we're in the same room, I still have the right to text whoever I want."

Jude stared at the message on his screen.

After a moment's hesitation, he lowered his hands below the table to reply.

[I might switch sides.]

Natalie sent back a single question mark.
