Gardenia pointed a finger at Natalie. "So you ignored me because she tried to kill herself?"
"I didn't try to kill myself," Natalie said coldly.
Gardenia's eyes reddened. "Stop acting, Natalie! Why won't you just let Hassan go?! He's miserable with you! All you bring him is pain! All you do is demand things from him, but I'm the only one who makes him happy! Don't you get that?!"
Since bringing Cora to the hospital, Natalie's head had been splitting with pain, the ringing in her ears never stopping. Now, with Gardenia screaming at her, she felt worse, her vision starting to blur.
"Zeke, take her home." The man issued the order a second time.
Zeke quickly stepped forward. "Ms. Sutton, let me take you back. Mr. Carlson has things to handle here."
Gardenia didn't even spare Zeke a glance. She stared intensely at Hassan. "You won't go soft on her, will you? You're still going to divorce her, right?"
Hassan pressed his lips into a tight line, a faint tremor in his jaw. He stared at Gardenia. "I won't go soft."
His voice was heavy, and Natalie heard every single word clearly.
The nurse cleaned the blood from her neck and began applying antiseptic. A sharp, prickling pain radiated from the cut, spreading to her shoulders, arms, and chest, tightening into an agonizing ache.
She squeezed her eyes shut, cold sweat breaking out on her forehead.
Gardenia, however, had heard exactly what she wanted. She no longer even acknowledged Natalie's presence.
"I'll head back first, but you have to come see me later. I have something really important to tell you," Gardenia said, looking deeply into Hassan's eyes.
The man gave a low hum of agreement.
The moment he agreed, Gardenia turned to Jude. "I don't want to ride with a stranger. Jude, can you drive me?"
Jude stood silently in the corner, alone. He had his head down, his forehead resting against the cold wall. His long eyelashes fluttered. "I..."
"You're not a doctor. Staying here won't do any good, and they're already here anyway."
Jude closed his eyes. "Let Zeke take you. I need to know she's okay."
