She still had so much of her life ahead of her.

These two feelings were completely different.

He could feel the distinction vividly.

Knowing Delia Sheridan had passed away, he often recalled the beautiful memories they shared, the nostalgia always accompanied by a deep ache.

These three types of emotions were all distinct.

He had figured all this out last night, and deep down, he already had an answer.

By the time Natalie Thornton arrived, Mia was still slumped over the table, sobbing quietly.

Jude Sheridan patted her back helplessly. The usually sharp-tongued man was entirely at a loss for words, unable to utter a single comforting syllable.

Natalie stepped forward and held her securely.

Jude exchanged a glance with Hassan Carlson, who had followed Natalie in.

"Why are you with Natalie?" Jude asked.

Instead of answering, Hassan countered, "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you just leave the kid with the nanny?"

That question struck Jude right in the soul.

He was right. Why hadn't he left her with the nanny? He had no idea how to take care of a kid, didn't even like children, and usually found them to be nothing but a hassle.

Jude's expression darkened, his hands clenching into fists. "Mia is my daughter."
