Gardenia Sutton lay in bed, having called Jude several times, but he hadn't answered a single one.

This had never happened before. In the past, Jude would always pick up, no matter how busy he was.

A vague sense of unease washed over her. Jude's attitude had been off lately, and her biggest fear was that he had found out about something.

The doctor had just given her a shot and was currently packing up to leave.

Gardenia stopped him. "Did you give Hassan his injection too?"

The doctor glanced up. "Yes, I did."

She finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, I got it. You can go."

She grabbed her phone and texted Jude. "Where are you? Why aren't you answering my calls?"

"Jude, my leg hurts."

Still getting no reply, she turned to message Jacob Holt instead. "Jacob, could you look into the cause of Cora's death for me?"

Gardenia had heard that Cora had been stabbed to death by a deranged, unemployed man.

Perhaps that was why Jude was so hung up on her passing.

But she felt it couldn't be that simple. How could Cora have just coincidentally run into him?

Maybe there was some bad blood between them. If Cora had brought it upon herself, then she had gotten exactly what she deserved.

Jacob replied with a voice memo. "Why do you want to investigate her death? The Vance family has already confirmed the cause."

"I just want to know the details. Thank you."

"Alright, I'll make a call and ask around."

Jacob called the manager of The Springfall, demanding the surveillance footage from the day of the incident.

But the man outright refused, citing some pretentious hotel policies.

Jacob sneered. "Don't act like I don't know how you operate. Relax, I'll make it worth your while, and I won't leak the footage to the public."
