"Are you busy again?" He instantly guessed her real excuse.

Natalie didn't even blink. "I just don't want to be around you. You make me sick."

The driver pulled up a moment later, stopping right in front of them.

As Hassan got into the car, he tossed a casual remark over his shoulder. "I'm pretty sure I wore a condom."

It took a couple of seconds for Natalie's brain to process what channel he was currently operating on.

She rolled her eyes. "Don't flatter yourself. Even if I got pregnant, I'd get an abortion without a second thought."

She would never bring a loveless child into the world.

Ever since she first formed her moral values, she had always viewed children as the culmination of love, and that belief hadn't changed.

......

She had refused the dinner with the restaurant owner simply because she was swamped.

She had to focus on her lab work, especially since she had just drafted a new forecasting model inspired by fireflies. Now, it required rigorous testing across multiple parameters.

During lunch in the cafeteria, Natalie gave Mia a call. Being just a kid, losing the mother she was closest to was basically the end of the world for her.

She could deeply empathize with that feeling, just as she had experienced it herself back then.

"Natalie, Marvin Ford is treating everyone to dinner tonight. You should come," Jett Saxon said as he sat down next to her with his tray. Marvin followed closely behind.

Marvin was holding three bottles of yogurt. Upon sitting down, he handed one to her and another to Jett.

Jett was naturally loud and boisterous, and he hadn't bothered keeping his voice down just now.

Before Natalie could even react, she heard Jude's voice through the phone. "Who is that? Why is Marvin treating you to dinner? I thought you two didn't get along."

They got along so poorly that even Jude, who rarely stayed in the country, knew about it.
