Once in the car, Jude pulled out his phone and casually checked it. Seeing Gardenia's missed calls and unread messages made him pause.

She had never sent him so many texts back-to-back before.

He tapped into the conversation to read them.

He knew full well that whenever she complained about random aches and pains, she just wanted him to coddle her. He had never called her out on it because he genuinely believed that the year she spent by his side earned her the right to ask anything of him.

Yet now, with absolutely nothing having changed, his patience for her was rapidly wearing thin.

He stared at the messages for a long while before ultimately ignoring them and locking his screen.

As Natalie climbed into the car holding Mia, she spotted a document resting on the seat next to her. She glanced at it and was instantly shocked.

Jude had actually legally changed Mia's last name to Vance.

She was absolutely certain that the rest of the Sheridan family had no idea about this yet. If they knew, they definitely wouldn't be reacting this calmly.

Pretending not to have noticed, she kept her mouth shut.

After she settled into the car, Hassan leaned in close, using his elbow to help support the weight of the child in her arms.

The kid was quite heavy, and carrying her really did make her arms ache.

Upon arriving back at the Sheridan estate, Mia's usual nanny approached and successfully took the sleeping girl from her.

This undoubtedly drove another dagger into Jude's heart. Even the nanny could hold her, yet he wasn't allowed near.

It proved that not only did Mia lack any attachment to him, but she also actively rejected him.

And this was all the consequence of his own actions.
