That comment severely pissed Hassan off. His brows drew together tightly, his voice dropping an octave. "Do you have to make everything you say sound so incredibly vile?"
Natalie shrugged. "That's just how it sounds. If you don't like it, you can leave. It's not like I forced you to sit here."
As soon as she said that, Dr. Zeller walked in carrying a file.
He sat down on the sofa across from them and opened the records.
Natalie immediately focused all her attention on him.
Dr. Zeller frowned slightly as he read. "According to the records, you were completely unresponsive when you were brought in. We ran some blood tests and found traces of a highly specialized chemical agent in your system. It was designed to induce a deep coma, and it absolutely wasn't something available on the regular market."
Natalie's brow furrowed sharply, remembering Mr. Chadwick saying that Coralie had traces of an untraceable chemical agent in her system too.
There was a massive possibility that Coralie's death was directly tied to whatever had happened to her.
The moment the thought crossed her mind, a crushing weight slammed into her chest. Even now, fully grown, she felt like she was suffocating just thinking about the horrific way Coralie died. She couldn't begin to imagine how the eighteen-year-old version of herself had survived that horror back then.
Looking at it that way, Hassan's claim that she lost her memory due to extreme psychological trauma actually made a terrifying amount of sense.
"Shortly after, Mr. Carlson had you transferred to another hospital, so we don't have any further records," Dr. Zeller said, closing the file and looking up at her. "Ms. Thornton, do you have any other questions?"
"Which hospital was I transferred to?"
Dr. Zeller's lips parted slightly, but then he looked down. "Um, it would be best if you asked Mr. Carlson about that. If we accidentally trigger another trauma response, the hospital simply can't bear that responsibility."
Natalie shot Hassan a venomous, mocking look. "Like you'd ever tell me."
She walked out of the hospital, her face frozen in anger.
Hassan grabbed her wrist. "I'll take you home."
