Nancy stiffened for a second before gently pulling her hand away from Natalie's grasp. "I'm perfectly fine! I was just spacing out thinking about that show I've been binging. Ugh, the cliffhanger was just too stressful!"

She pulled a freshly baked pie out of the fridge. "Here, try some. I made this pecan pie just for you."

Natalie sat at the dining table and took a bite of the pie. A few minutes later, Nancy went out to the balcony to take a phone call.

When she came back inside, she announced she had to go out for a bit.

Natalie was genuinely surprised. "Where are you going? Did someone call you out?"

"I... just have some errands to run." She gave a tight, evasive smile. "Take your time eating. If you like it, I'll bake it again next time."

Natalie nodded and didn't push the issue.

The second Nancy left, however, she dialed Yale. "Dr. Easton, has Nancy been seeing you for sessions lately? I feel like she's been acting really off."

The sound of typing echoed over the line before Yale replied, "I just pulled up her file. After that one session you brought her to, I tried scheduling follow-ups, but she never came back."

Natalie realized just how long ago that one session was, and her suspicion deepened into a knot of anxiety.

"I understand. Thank you." Natalie was just about to hang up.

Yale spoke up. "Are you... doing okay lately?"

Natalie was confused. "Why wouldn't I be? I'm fine."

She assumed he was talking about the impending divorce with Hassan. Everyone in their social circle seemed to think her life was going to completely implode the second they signed the papers.

Natalie had long stopped caring about that kind of gossip.

Yale stayed silent for a moment before saying, "Yeah. That's good then."

He ended the call first.
