Cora found out about Natalie's situation and specifically called to check on her.

Natalie didn't like burdening others with her negativity, so she changed the subject to Mia. "By the way, Jude changed Mia's last name. She has your last name now."

There was silence on the other end for a moment. When she spoke, her voice carried a hint of bitterness. "What good is sharing my last name if she can't come with me?"

Changing her last name had already sent the Sheridan family into a rage. They only reluctantly agreed because it was Jude who pushed for it.

"What about you? Any good news on your end?" Natalie asked her proactively.

Cora's tone lightened considerably. "I recently entered a photography contest organized by my club, and I won first place. I also went hiking with some people who share my interests. The sunset at the peak was absolutely beautiful. I even made a new friend who turned a photo of a sunset she took five years ago into an envelope and gave it to me."

Listening to Cora enthusiastically share her life, Natalie knew she was genuinely happy now.

She was truly happy for her freedom.

As she spoke, Cora paused, then added, "The only thing I can't get used to is not having Mia by my side."

She had raised Mia since she was a baby. Before she started working, they were practically together twenty-four hours a day.

Even after she started working, she could see Mia as soon as she got home.

"So... do you regret it?" Natalie asked softly.

Cora didn't hesitate. "No regrets."

She missed her life with her daughter, but she didn't regret her decision. She knew that if she didn't seize this chance, she might have been stuck in the Sheridan family forever, living at their mercy. Her daughter's maturity occasionally brought her comfort, but it wasn't the life she wanted.

Natalie smiled and said, "I'll send you the photos Mia took recently later. I got busy and forgot."

"Thank you, Natalie. I don't even know what to say anymore," Cora thought for a moment, then added, "I'll mail you some things. Some photos I took here that I developed—they look really nice—and a few trinkets I picked up wandering the antique streets."

"That sounds great. I had a friend who also loved..." Natalie's voice trailed off, softening, "She also loved giving me things like that. I really like them."
