The two of them returned to the main hall in silence.
Hassan looked at Gardenia. "Let her have it."
Gardenia gritted her teeth, a wave of humiliation washing over her.
"Fine," she finally agreed.
Even though the robot wasn't hers to begin with, in her eyes, Natalie was stealing something that belonged to her.
She couldn't understand why Hassan would agree to Natalie's unreasonable demand.
Giving something worth millions to Natalie was just throwing money down the drain. She had originally planned to take it apart and study it.
Unsurprisingly, Natalie secured first place, and the name 'Seven' became famous overnight.
By the time Natalie carried the robot back home, Nancy was just setting a large, hearty homemade stew on the dining table, still wearing her apron. She had cooked an entire feast to celebrate Natalie's success.
"You're back," Nancy said, looking up. But her gaze froze. Although the robot Natalie was holding had undergone some modifications, she recognized it immediately as her own creation.
Her mind went blank. "What's going on? How is that here with you?"
Natalie explained everything that had happened.
"So, I used my favor to get it back," Natalie said, offering a soft smile.
"You're such an idiot," Nancy whispered, biting her lower lip hard. Tears spilled over before she could stop them, and she choked up, unable to say another word.
"This is your blood, sweat, and tears. I don't know what happened to the other designs that were bought off, but since I saw this one, there was no way I was going to let Gardenia dismantle all your sleepless nights just to patch up her own project and slap her name on it."
Nancy took a deep breath, at a loss for words, and pulled Natalie into a tight hug. "Let's eat!"
Natalie chuckled. "Hehe, you're not mad, are you?"
"Hmph." Nancy scooped a bowl of stew for her. "I won't be mad as long as you eat three bowls of this today."
The Carlson family definitely wouldn't approve of her associating with someone who lacked a prestigious background, so she had never mentioned Nancy before.
"Just a girlfriend of mine. Don't worry, I'll head back right after we eat. It's someone Hassan knows."
Cecily pressed further, "What's her name?"
"Nancy." Natalie wasn't afraid to say the name. Nancy had chosen it herself. Natalie didn't even know what her real name used to be, and she had just used an English alias for the competition.
"Hassan isn't back either. Give him a call when you have a minute."
Natalie nodded and gave a noncommittal response before Cecily hung up.
Staring at her phone, she felt a surge of irritation. She had no idea when Hassan would finally agree to sign the divorce papers.
This life of constantly being monitored and controlled... When she loved him, she viewed it as the sweet concern of family. Now that the love was dead, it felt like nothing more than a cage.
