The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 101

“The police came by,” Stella Vance said. “They told us to wait for an update.”

She paused, looking at Suzie Sterling with a troubled expression. After a long silence, she finally spoke again.

“Suzie, we don’t have secrets between us, right?”

Suzie froze, wondering why Stella would suddenly say something like that. It was clear from her tone that something more was coming.

She nodded solemnly.

Stella’s voice was low. “Suzie… Oliver thinks Jamie Baylor sent those people.”

The words hit Suzie like a physical blow. She stared at Stella, stunned.

That’s impossible. Absolutely impossible! As much as she hated Jamie, she knew his character. He would never do something so vicious.

Yes, Jamie had threatened her using Oliver, that much was obvious. But if he was angry enough to retaliate, he would have gone after Oliver directly. He wouldn’t hurt an elderly couple.

Besides, if a crime that heinous was ever exposed, it would ruin Jamie’s life. He wasn’t that stupid.

Seeing the disbelief written all over Suzie’s face, Stella pressed on. “Has Jamie been in contact with you recently?”

Seeing the persistent pain on Stella’s face, Suzie steeled herself. “Stella, please don’t look down on me after I tell you this.”

“What are you talking about? Aren’t we best friends? Even if I were capable of looking down on someone, it would never be you,” Stella said, half scolding and half comforting, as she rubbed Suzie’s back.

“I’m not trying to pry into your private life. The thing is, Oliver is convinced Jamie harmed his parents. He’s in a terrible place right now, and I’m scared he’ll do something reckless. I need to understand everything that happened so I can figure out what’s really going on.”

Suzie nodded. “Jamie already knew I was pregnant. He mentioned it at the hospital that day. The next day, he sent his bodyguards to forcibly take me to the hospital. He had a whole medical team waiting… to force me to terminate the pregnancy.”

“What?!” Stella exclaimed. “The babies… Are they gone? But all this time…”
