Harrison’s words put Suzie in a very difficult position. It was perfectly reasonable for a boss to fight for a major contract, even without the noble cause of helping a friend. He sounded sincere, not like someone hiding behind Oliver to make a sales pitch.
But that only made her dilemma worse. If she refused, Mirage Studio would lose a significant amount of income, which would in turn mean less support for Oliver. But if she accepted, she risked being branded a backstabber, and her professional reputation could be tarnished by rumors of her poaching the contract.
Finally, she voiced her primary concern. “Harrison, wouldn't this be unfair to Lexi?”
Harrison seemed to realize she was wavering, and some of the tension left his face. “I can offer Lexi a percentage of the commission from this project. It’s a practice we’ve used before with returning clients. Would you be agreeable to that? As for anyone else in the studio who might have an issue, I’ll handle it. You don't have to worry.”
Suzie nodded. Although she desperately needed to save money for her babies’ birth and upbringing, she wasn't going to be petty about something like this.
“In that case… Harrison, let me take some time to review the contract’s requirements. If I feel I can handle the job, I’ll accept it.”
“Good. Make sure you get some rest.”
Time flew by, and before she knew it, the Baylor Group shoot was underway.
Mia, however, was listening with rapt attention, her eyes wide with admiration. “Wow, Suzie, you’re not just an amazing photographer, you know so much about jewelry too!”
Suzie offered a small smile. “I’m not as impressive as you make me sound. I don’t know much about jewelry, really. This is all just from some supplementary materials I read back when I was studying photography.”
“Well, in my eyes, you’re brilliant! I’m so lucky I get to be your assistant,” Mia gushed, before getting back to the point. “This was definitely the client’s request. I mentioned it to Mr. Young’s assistant, and she said his instructions were to just shoot according to the brief.”
