After Mia finished reading, a faint, elegant smile touched Suzie’s lips as she turned her calm gaze back to the model.
“Miss, did you hear that clearly?” Suzie’s voice was firm. “If you wish to continue with this shoot, I expect your full cooperation. If not, my assistant can walk you through the replacement process. Now stop causing a scene and wasting everyone’s time.”
Just as Suzie finished speaking, the other model from the shoot ran over, stepping between them to act as a peacemaker. “Sabrina, that’s enough. This is just how shoots go. We’ve done this a million times; retakes are normal. Just apologize to Suzie, and we can all move on.”
“Apologize?” Sabrina scoffed. “You think I’m going to fall for some fake contract? I’m one of the Baylor Group’s exclusive models. I’d like to see anyone dare to replace me!”
Her voice grew louder, the shrill sound echoing across the outdoor set.
The other model tried again. “Sabrina…”
“Mind your own business! Get out of my way!”
Sabrina shot her a nasty glare and gave her a hard shove. The shove sent the other model stumbling straight back toward Suzie.
Mia reacted in a split second, yanking Suzie out of the way. But as Suzie dodged, her arm collided with the tall tripod holding the camera.
SPLASH!
The entire photography setup, tripod and all, toppled over and plunged into the swimming pool. It vanished beneath the surface with a huge spray of water.
She knew the equipment was advanced and felt its technological superiority the moment she touched it. She had assumed it was expensive, but she never imagined it would be *that* ridiculously expensive. How in the world could she ever afford to replace it?
“Well, there you have it. Everyone saw what happened,” Sabrina declared, her voice dripping with undisguised glee. “Whoever knocked it into the water has to pay for it.”
Mia immediately let go of Suzie’s arm and lunged forward, grabbing Sabrina’s wrist. “It was you!” she cried. “Everyone saw you push her! That’s what caused the equipment to fall. Don’t even think about denying it!”
Sabrina viciously shook Mia’s hand off. “I pushed someone,” she said, looking down her nose at Mia. “But everyone also saw who I pushed. Was it Suzie? Did I push her?”
The question hit Mia hard, and she froze. She remembered it all too clearly. Sabrina had pushed the other model, Zina. Afraid that Zina would crash into Suzie, Mia had pulled Suzie away, causing her to bump into the tripod.
