The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 116

“Whatever evidence you have, you obviously fabricated it,” Suzie said, her voice cold. “Aren’t you afraid this is going to come back on you?”

Lexi just looked at the furious Suzie, a smug smile spreading across her face.

But instead of answering, she said, “Now, I want you to look very carefully at what I’m about to show you. And listen very carefully to what I have to say.”

As she spoke, Lexi pulled a set of photos from her bag and tossed them onto the glass table beside Suzie’s chair.

Suzie frowned, her gaze slowly drifting toward the pictures.

There were about a dozen of them scattered across the table, all taken in a park pavilion, and all featuring Josie.

Instinctively, Suzie picked them up one by one to examine them.

In the photos, Josie was seated on a stone bench, with a man sitting across from her at a table.

The photos looked like stills pulled from a surveillance video. It started with Josie talking to the man, then handing him a folder. In return, the man passed her several thick stacks of cash, unwrapped and obvious.

The photos even captured the moment Josie reached out to take the money.

And then, the motion of her tucking the cash into her own bag.

Lexi seemed to have anticipated this reaction. She said dismissively, “I know you’re surprised. But don’t be in such a hurry. Let me walk you through it. Before I do, though, there’s something else I want to talk about…”

Lexi paused for dramatic effect before continuing, “I’ve met plenty of people who are as desperate for money as you are, Suzie. When I landed the Baylor Group contract, I offered you a golden opportunity to assist as an intern photographer and learn from me. And what did you do? You turned me down, using the excuse that you weren't feeling well.”

“Normally, when a senior photographer offers to mentor a new intern, they’re scrambling to follow us around, eager to learn anything they can. Some even bring gifts to try and get our attention.”

Lexi paced arrogantly in front of Suzie as she delivered her tirade. “But you? I specifically asked for you, and you refused. Not feeling well? Funny how you’re suddenly feeling much better now that you’ve managed to snatch one of my old clients for yourself, isn’t it?”

As soon as Lexi finished, Chloe chimed in, eager to add fuel to the fire. “Oh, Lexi, if you think that’s bad, you have no idea. There’s so much more you don’t know about Suzie’s love for money. I heard from Jamie that for the past two years, Suzie’s mother has been sneaking into the Baylor Manor to steal things to sell. And Suzie has been stealing, too.”
