After the police led Suzie away, Chloe and Lexi lounged comfortably on a sofa in one of the villa's rooms, leisurely sipping red wine.
Standing respectfully before them were the two models who had helped entrap Suzie: Sabrina and Zina.
After they had been standing for a while, Chloe finally set down her wine glass and pulled two thick wads of cash from her purse.
With an air of superiority, she tossed the money onto the table. “Sabrina, Zina,” she said, her voice dripping with condescension, “you two were brilliant by the pool today. Absolutely brilliant. Your acting skills are on par with A-list stars. It’s a shame you’re just models. When I get the right connections, I’ll help you land a role on a real production.”
“Wow, Chloe, are you serious?” Sabrina exclaimed, her eyes shining as she bent down to pick up the money.
She knew that sticking with Chloe would bring rewards and a taste of the high life. The untouchable Jamie Baylor never appeared in public with any other woman. Chloe was the only one. As long as she clung to this connection, she wouldn't have to worry about her future.
“Of course, I’m serious. But let me make one thing clear,” Chloe said, leaning back in her chair. She held up a delicate hand, admiring her manicure as she spoke with an air of arrogance.
Sabrina caught Zina’s eye. After a quick, silent exchange, they both nodded eagerly.
“Chloe, you can rest assured,” Sabrina promised. “We will take everything that happened today to our graves.”
“Yes, same here,” Zina added.
Seeing her friend's anxiety, Chloe offered a confident smile. “You clearly don’t understand my place in Jamie’s heart. Even if I do something wrong, he’ll always cover for me.”
Lexi mulled over Chloe's words but still felt uneasy. This wasn't some petty squabble; they were trying to frame someone and send them to prison. She had only dared to go through with it because Chloe had sworn up and down that everything would be fine. As much as she hated Suzie, the most she would have done on her own was slap her or curse her out.
After a long pause, Lexi asked, “Are you certain Jamie has no feelings left for his ex-wife?”
At the question, Chloe slammed her wine glass down on the table. “Lexi, what kind of question is that? He never had any feelings for her to begin with! The moment I told him I was coming back, he dropped everything to come and get me. He lets me use any resource in the entertainment world I want. If he still cared about that bitch Suzie, would he have divorced her? Would he be treating me this well?”
