The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 141

Suzie offered a faint smile and arched an eyebrow at Chloe.

In the next instant, she raised her hand and brought it down hard across Lexi's face. The slap echoed, sharp enough to make everyone wince.

Before Lexi could even react, still cupping her stinging cheek and glaring, Suzie struck her again, just as forcefully, on the other side.

The only sounds in the room were the ragged, uneven breaths of the onlookers, mingled with Lexi's choked gasps and whimpers.

Suzie’s clear voice cut through the tension. “Lexi, whether you believe it or not, I only found out about Josie leaving after the fact. I never tried to steal your project. Sometimes, what you see, what you hear, and even what you believe, isn't the truth. Just like the person you trust so completely…”

As she spoke, Suzie shot a pointed glance at Chloe. She then leaned in close to Lexi, her voice dropping to a near-whisper. “Are you really going to take the fall for her? You’d better think carefully. These two slaps are just the beginning.”

With that, Suzie straightened up and gave Lexi a serene smile.

Lexi’s brow furrowed, her expression a mask of tormented indecision.

A second later, she shoved Suzie with all her might.

Caught completely off guard, Suzie lost her balance. Just as she was about to topple backward, strong arms wrapped around her, and she found herself securely in Jamie’s embrace.

Standing a short distance away, Chloe’s eyes were fixed on Suzie’s stomach, a flash of pure hatred flickering in their depths before vanishing.

A flicker of surprise went through Suzie as she mulled over his words. Could there be more to the equipment falling into the water? Jamie wouldn't have done this unless he had some evidence.

After a moment of silence, Suzie turned her suspicion into a pointed question. “You two,” she said coldly, “you deliberately created a conflict to frame me, but you didn't expect to damage the equipment in the process, did you?”

At her words, Sabrina, who already looked pale, turned as white as a sheet. “No, no, that’s not it,” she stammered, her voice trembling. “You kept calling ‘cut,’ and I was miserable from swallowing so much water. I just lost my temper with you. Zina was only trying to stop me from offending the photographer. We never thought… we never meant for the equipment to fall. It was an accident.”

By the time Sabrina finished, a cold sweat was drenching her back. From the moment the bodyguards had barged into her apartment, she knew she was in deep trouble.

On the way over, she had secretly texted Chloe for instructions. The reply had been simple: insist that everything was an accident and say nothing else.
