About an hour later, Jamie finally appeared.
Suzie slowly rose from the sofa and said calmly, “Thank you for today, no matter what. But I can’t stay here.”
Jamie loosened his tie as he walked over to the sofa and sat down. He stared at her for a few seconds before his lips parted slightly. “I told you, you have two choices: prison or this house.”
His tone was absolute, leaving no room for argument.
Suzie had expected as much. He framed it as a choice, but who would be foolish enough to choose prison? She met his gaze directly, her own eyes firm. “Jamie, you have no right to hold me captive here.”
Her unwavering stare, devoid of any fear or retreat, caused Jamie’s brow to furrow with displeasure. He slowly rose and stood before her. His towering height and commanding presence were instantly oppressive.
Suzie’s breathing quickened, but she held her ground, refusing to show any sign of weakness as she met his gaze. Their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills.
After a long moment, Suzie spoke again. “I already told you, if you want a paternity test, I'll go when you schedule it. We’re divorced. How many times do I have to say it?”
Jamie advanced on her, his eyes sharp and piercing, sending a chill down her spine. Suzie backed away instinctively, her heart pounding despite her best efforts to maintain a calm expression.
Just as her back hit the wall, Jamie’s arm snaked around her waist, pulling her tightly against him.
As Suzie seethed, Jamie suddenly shifted, sitting down on the sofa in one swift motion. Before she could react, she found herself pulled onto his lap, his large frame almost completely enveloping her smaller one.
“Oh? And how, exactly, is that my fault?” he asked, his magnetic voice vibrating near her ear. The air suddenly grew thick with intimacy.
Suzie squirmed, desperately trying to get up, but he only held her tighter. The close contact made her intensely aware of his body heat. Her heart began to race, and a blush crept up her cheeks.
She tried to stand again, but Jamie’s arms tightened around her, rendering her immobile. At the same time, his low warning came softly.
“If you move again, I can’t guarantee I won’t do something… out of line.”
