The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 154

Chloe’s body trembled, her sobs filled with grievance and despair.

“Jamie,” she wailed, crawling over to him and clinging to his leg. “Look at my face, she’s the one who hit me! She acts all gentle in front of you, but behind your back, she’s a malicious snake… I was just trying to apologize to her, hoping she would forgive me, but…”

Chloe continued her tearful narration, her eyes darting to Jamie, searching for any sign of sympathy or pity. It was as if she was trying to out-act Suzie’s display of vulnerability.

However, Jamie’s expression remained as cold as ice. There wasn’t a shred of sympathy in his eyes, only a faint, barely perceptible flicker of disgust.

“Aaron!” Jamie called out sharply.

Aaron, who had entered a moment ago, immediately hurried over.

“Mr. Baylor… your orders?” he asked, his voice laced with nervousness as he took in the chaotic scene. He was breaking out in a cold sweat, unable to figure out what was happening or who Jamie would ultimately protect.

Jamie’s eyes were like frozen pools. He looked down at Chloe, who was still clinging desperately to his leg, and felt no pity.

“Get her out of here,” he commanded.

“Yes, Mr. Baylor.” Aaron quickly moved to obey, cautiously reaching out to pull Chloe away from Jamie.

But Chloe refused to let go, gripping his pant leg even tighter as her cries grew more pathetic. “No, I’m not leaving! Jamie, you can’t do this to me!” she begged, her dignity forgotten.

It was as if Jamie hadn't even bothered to find out who was right or wrong before blaming her. He wasn't like this before. Chloe looked up at him, her eyes filled with utter despair.

Of course. The woman was carrying his child; how could he possibly ignore her? If he could put on an act for Suzie, he could certainly do it for other women too.

“That bastard is such a good actor, it’s a shame he’s not in Hollywood,” Suzie muttered to herself.

Just then, before Suzie could look away, her eyes met Jamie’s. Their gazes locked, each filled with a complex mix of emotions the other couldn’t decipher.

Suzie waited quietly in the bedroom as the minutes ticked by.
