The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 284

On the way, Suzie couldn’t think of anything to say, and she worried Oliver might suddenly bring something up. She decided to make an excuse, claiming she was exhausted from the long flight and needed to close her eyes for a bit.

Perhaps she truly was that tired, because what started as a pretense turned into a real nap. She didn’t stir until she heard Oliver’s voice calling her name, slowly waking to find a thin blanket draped over her.

“I’m sorry, I guess the flight really wore me out.”

“You were sleeping so peacefully, I didn’t have the heart to wake you. But you mentioned you had something tonight. It’s not even seven yet, so you still have an hour before the livestream. Let me take you to get something to eat,” Oliver said gently, his hands resting on the steering wheel.

Suzie rubbed her eyes and replied, “There’s no time. You know how it is—I’m not the one on camera, but I still need to go over the details with the host. I’m worried something will go wrong.”

“But you have to eat.” Before Suzie could respond, Oliver had already gotten out of the car.

Suzie glanced out the window. They were parked near Hayden’s studio. Oliver was hurrying toward a fast-food restaurant across the street.

Watching his retreating figure, Suzie felt an unfamiliar weight settle on her heart. She had been rejecting his advances in her own quiet way for so long—a rejection any adult would understand—but he seemed to be silently persisting. If this continued, she might end up ruining his life. As his friend, how could she bear to do that?

Maybe it was better to…

Suzie took out her phone and opened her social media app. The first thing she saw was the top trending topic: her adorable children at the airport. A sweet smile touched her lips as she looked at them.

She saved each of the pictures before returning to the main feed.

The second trending headline read: [“Sugar Buddies” Mom’s Identity Possibly Revealed.]
