The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 290

“Do I need to be the one to decide on such minor matters now?” Jamie asked, his voice cold.

Aaron was momentarily at a loss for words. With DC Entertainment still lacking a General Manager, the board had been unable to agree on who should oversee talent acquisition.

Besides Keegan, several other employees had also submitted proposals.

After a moment of silence, Aaron chose his words carefully. “Mr. Baylor… the management for DC hasn’t been decided yet. So… the Vice President suggested letting the staff compete for the promotion. The first criterion for review will be who lands the first deal with the highest returns.”

When Jamie remained impassive, lighting a cigarette without a word, Aaron added, “Perhaps you should take a look. This group is quite interesting.”

At that, Jamie, with the cigarette dangling from his lips, narrowed his eyes and fixed Aaron with a sharp stare.

The look sent a jolt of fear through Aaron, who could practically hear Jamie’s unspoken question: *Did you take a bribe from Keegan?*

“Mr. Baylor… this group has been popular for a long time,” Aaron rushed to explain. “I even watch their videos before bed. They have a huge following. This isn’t just about Mr. Lynn’s recommendation. A lot of people in the company are fans. I just think we should ultimately see whose proposal is the most sound…”

As Aaron was finishing his sentence, Jamie picked up the phone. Aaron let out a long, silent breath of relief.

Jamie glanced at him. “Have someone bring in some coffee.”

“I had dinner prepared for you. Why don’t you eat something first?”

“Coffee,” Jamie repeated, his tone final.

“…”

Once Aaron had left, Jamie unlocked the phone. A social media account named “Sugar Buddies” filled the screen.

The profile description was simple: “Documenting the daily lives of three little angels.”

His finger slid across the screen, and he tapped on a random video.

If the accident had never happened, the children would be this age by now…

She loved her children so much. She had cried for them, screamed for them, and swallowed her pride to beg him for them...

This only strengthened his conviction: Suzie would never have done something as foolish as throwing herself into the sea. The fact that no one could find her could only mean one thing—she was deliberately hiding from him, living somewhere under a new name.

Just as his chest tightened with a storm of chaotic thoughts, his personal phone suddenly rang. He recognized the custom ringtone instantly. It was his grandfather.

He picked up the phone, took a moment to compose himself, and answered in a gentle voice.

“Grandpa…”

“You brat!” Richard Baylor’s voice boomed through the speaker the moment the call connected. “Can’t you even give me a call? How many days has it been since you last came to see me?!”
