The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 291

Before Jamie could even apologize, Richard’s voice crackled through the phone again.

“Are you still at the office? Do you live there now? Drop whatever you’re doing and watch the video I just sent you. Don’t hang up, watch it right now!”

“Alright, Grandpa,” Jamie replied gently, quickly opening his chat with his grandfather.

The video Richard had sent was the very same “Sugar Buddies” clip he had just been watching.

He frowned slightly and asked quietly, “Grandpa, how do you know about them?”

“That’s not the point!” Richard said, his voice laced with urgency. “The point is, that little girl looks exactly like you did as a child, and those two boys look just like Suzie when she was young. Look! Take another look!”

Jamie rubbed his temples, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

“Grandpa, remember that time I took you shopping? You chased after some poor girl with your cane and nearly scared her into calling the police… I know you miss Suzie, but you can’t go around thinking everyone looks like her.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, a fresh wave of sadness washed over Jamie. He was chiding his grandfather for seeing Suzie in every face, yet wasn’t he doing the exact same thing?

“You brat, I’m not senile yet! What do you mean I think everyone looks like Suzie? You’re in front of me every day, and I’m telling you that little girl looks like you. There, I just sent you a picture of yourself at four. Compare them yourself, see if I’m wrong! Little girls usually look like their fathers, and boys tend to take after their mothers. Just take a good look…”

Jamie, convinced his grandfather was simply lost in his longing for Suzie, continued to placate him gently. “Okay, Grandpa. I have some urgent work to finish right now. I’ll look as soon as I’m done. If there’s really a resemblance, I’ll have someone investigate tomorrow, how does that sound?”

“Fine. But hurry up, and don’t you dare brush this off. I’ll be waiting for your news at home.”

After hanging up, Jamie stared at the photo his grandfather had sent. The chubby-cheeked little girl really did bear a striking resemblance to him.

After a long moment, he tapped the ash into the ashtray and spoke, his voice low and raspy. “I want you to handle the negotiations for this ‘Sugar Buddies’ account. Do it in the name of Baylor Group’s headquarters. As for the proposal, have the executive secretarial team draft it. Find out what other companies are offering. Whatever their price, we’ll offer three times as much. I don’t care what it takes, I want them signed.”

Aaron nodded in disbelief. Had the famously aloof CEO also been captivated by those cute kids? Or had Jamie spotted a massive business opportunity?

Just as Aaron was about to leave, Jamie’s voice stopped him.

“Come back.”

Aaron immediately returned and leaned in to hear his boss’s instructions. But Jamie simply made a familiar, ruthless gesture with his hand.

Aaron felt a shiver run down his spine. His boss was as merciless as ever. With any other project, a Baylor Group contract backed by their formidable legal team would have been enough to wipe out every competitor in Mornhaven. Was his boss really planning to tie these kids down with an exclusive deal? It seemed that if he failed to secure this deal, his future would be anything but easy.
