The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 343

"Right. Before that, I had been searching everywhere for her. But after meeting you..."

"You rich heirs are unbelievably fickle," she interrupted ruthlessly, cutting off his confession.

"Only scumbags are fickle, and I'm not one of them. That's not what I meant at all. Just let me finish talking, please?"

"No," she refused coldly. Then, lowering her voice with deliberate mystery, she asked, "Do you want to know Suzanne's secret?"

Chester recoiled from her harsh rejection, thoroughly stunned that she had actually dug into Suzanne's past. He slumped back against the seat, sighing in defeat. "I told you, I'm not a fickle guy. I don't care about her secrets anymore."

"Oh? Then you can get out of my car."

Chester froze again. As the eldest son of the Lambert family, he was used to people bending over backward for him. Not only was he humiliatingly chasing after her today, but he was also letting her lead him around by the nose. But if he stepped out of this car now, he knew he would probably never see her again. He had sent her countless texts, all ignored. Once she drove off today, she would undoubtedly block his number.

Twisting his body to face her fully, he finally caved, dropping all his pride. "Fine. You are the most cold-hearted woman I've ever met in my life. So... what exactly is Suzanne's secret?"

A faint smirk touched the corner of her lips. "I never said you couldn't get over her, Mr. Lambert. But given how desperately you were searching for her before, there clearly has to be some unfinished business between the two of you. If you don't find her and get your answers, won't it always haunt you?"

Chester burst into loud, genuine laughter. "That's the first time I've ever heard someone admit that so bluntly. Judging by your outfit, you're doing pretty well for yourself already. What, are you aiming to be the richest woman in the world?"

He flipped down the passenger sun visor, vainly fixing his perfectly styled hair in the vanity mirror. When she didn't answer his joke, his expression sobered. "How's your forehead feeling? After we hit your spot, I'm taking you straight to the hospital for a follow-up check."

"We'll see," she said dismissively.

His fingers froze in his hair, his gaze drifting slowly over to her profile. This woman was sharp, decisive, and relentlessly frosty. It only made him more intensely intrigued. The socialites he usually dealt with were sickeningly sweet and so compliant it was boring. But the woman sitting beside him exuded an untouchable, utterly unique beauty.
