The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 396

She was going to parade around this ballroom, and she wanted Jamie to see exactly whose arm she was holding!

If he wanted to start a fight, he could take it up with Chester.

Chester, meanwhile, was pleasantly shocked by her sudden proximity.

Trying to hide his smug grin, he asked cautiously, "Except for that Starlight Entertainment guy, am I allowed to introduce you as my girlfriend to everyone else? Just for tonight, of course."

"Whatever you want."

As the words left her mouth, a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touched her lips.

He might have claimed he brought her here to "see the world," but it was obvious he was also enjoying using her as eye candy to boost his own ego.

Guiding him toward the buffet tables, she asked,

"You know Myron Finch?"

"I know of him. He's a notorious sleazebag. Make sure you keep your distance."

She raised an eyebrow and probed further.

"Really? Because he didn't seem to recognize you at all."

Chester grabbed a plate and some silverware, unfazed as he selected a few pieces of fruit.

"We've been in the same room a few times, but never spoken. A big shot like him probably doesn't pay attention to guys like me. But around Jamie? He's a total lapdog. Don't believe me? Look over there..."

Suzie frowned, following his gaze.

In the center VIP section, Jamie sat slouched against a velvet sofa, his long legs elegantly crossed.

He looked entirely at ease, a lit cigarette pinched between his long fingers.

Myron hadn't even dared to sit down; he was hunched over, enthusiastically lighting Jamie's cigarette with an embarrassingly eager smile.

The people seated on the sofa next to Jamie were all heavy hitters she recognized from the news.

Suzie looked away again, asking nonchalantly,

"You two are such great friends. Aren't you going to go say hello?"

Chester shoved his free hand in his pocket and grinned.

"He looks pretty busy, and he probably doesn't even know I'm here. You want me to take you over and introduce you?"

Before Suzie could answer, a sudden commotion erupted from a nearby corner.

Chester turned his head, squinting.

"Looks like two women are getting into it..."

Right then, Stella strutted over, wine glass in hand, her eyes gleaming with wicked excitement.

"Suzie, front-row tickets to a shitshow. That bitch Lexi is fighting with some woman over there."
