The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 413

Not only was the arm behind her back maintaining a respectful distance, but the hand resting on her waist was barely touching her. There were no wandering fingers, no inappropriate pressure.

"May I at least know your name?" Orion asked.

"Suzie."

"A beautiful name for a beautiful woman."

The moment the compliment landed, the polite smile vanished from Suzie's face.

In her peripheral vision, Jamie was standing right next to them. His hands were stuffed into his pockets, his posture rigid. He didn't say a word, and his dark eyes were unreadable.

Sensing the sudden presence, Orion slowed their steps. When he turned and realized it was Jamie, he didn't tense up at all. Instead, he asked casually, "Are you here to dance too? I thought you didn't know how."

Suzie was genuinely surprised by his tone. Jamie rarely managed the day-to-day operations of DC Entertainment himself, and he certainly wasn't one to fraternize with subordinates.

As a signed artist, Orion obviously knew who Jamie was.

Yet, facing the ultimate boss of his company, the young man showed zero deference or nervous respect. Instead, he spoke to him as if they were casual buddies.

In the corporate world, this was incredibly rare. In fact, it was practically unheard of.

While all of this flashed through Suzie's mind, she kept her expression perfectly blank. She continued to move with Orion, though their steps slowed to a halt.

A second later, Jamie's signature cold, authoritative voice cut through the music.

Before Orion could step back, she offered a polite, distant smile. "If you'll excuse me, I'm feeling a bit tired. I think I'll go rest. Enjoy the evening."

She smoothly slipped her hand out of his grip and walked away. From start to finish, her gaze remained utterly neutral, treating Jamie as if he were nothing but thin air.

Seeing her leave, Orion opened his mouth to call after her, but Jamie grabbed him by the back of his collar and shoved him in the opposite direction.

"I said, go play somewhere else," Jamie muttered dismissively. "And your dancing is terrible, by the way."

Watching Suzie disappear into the crowd, Orion glared at Jamie, crossing his arms and refusing to back down.

"Like you're any better! A massive CEO who doesn't even know how to ballroom dance. Embarrassing. And let me tell you, interrupting people like that is incredibly rude. You just scared off a goddess! Unbelievable!"
