The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 414

Orion wouldn't stop complaining, alternating between scowling and rolling his eyes like a teenager who had just been grounded.

Suddenly, he noticed Jamie's rolled-up sleeve and scoffed. "What are you rolling up your sleeves for? You wanna fight me over this? Wait... what did you mean by 'she's not a woman you get to dance with'? Are you into her? If you like her, just say it! Because I'm into her too..."

Orion crossed his arms, staring Jamie down defiantly. Finally, he gave Jamie one last exaggerated eye-roll before storming off.

Watching the young actor leave, Jamie merely twitched an eyebrow. He didn't look particularly angry.

He quickly turned his attention back to the direction Suzie had gone, taking long, purposeful strides.

But after scanning the immediate crowd, there was no sign of her...

Meanwhile, Suzie had slipped away from the noisy dance floor. After glancing around and failing to spot Stella, she walked down a quieter side path, heading deeper into the venue.

This exclusive, high-end mansion had been featured on a few architectural blogs before. Because of its unique, modern design, Suzie had actually studied the layout online out of professional curiosity.

Off to the side of the main banquet hall was a door leading to a terraced garden.

It was set up much like a rooftop café—elegant, private, and beautifully arranged.

Since galas like this ran for hours, these outdoor spaces were designed for guests to step out, get some fresh air, and relax.

Relying on her memory, Suzie found the heavy doors. Stepping outside, she was greeted by a stunning, modern-classic aesthetic. It was a complete contrast to the opulent hall inside, with soft, ambient music playing in the background.

She scanned the terrace. It was mostly empty. Finding a secluded spot near the railing, she took a seat.

The service at these elite events was truly impeccable. No sooner had she sat down than a waiter appeared, placing a delicate cocktail, some fresh fruit, and pastries on her table.

Maybe she moved too fast, or maybe she wasn't paying attention.

Her silk dress caught squarely on the sharp, protruding edge of the chair's ornate molding.

She was already mid-step when the fabric snagged. The sudden, violent tug threw her completely off balance, her ankle buckling as she pitched sideways.

Panic spiked in her chest. She opened her mouth to gasp.

In a flash, a dark figure closed the distance. Before she could hit the ground, she collided with a solid, muscular chest, caught securely in a pair of strong arms.

His hand gripped her waist tightly, pulling her body flush against his.
