"But why would Margaret swap the babies?" Suzie murmured to herself, perplexed. "And why, after all these years, wouldn't she try to claim her real daughter?"

Oliver paused before chiming in. "Based on the files I gathered, it's likely because the Sterlings heavily favored boys. If they kept a daughter, they probably wouldn't have had the financial means to try for a second child. Both of the Sterling grandparents were severely ill at the time, Margaret was just a low-level nurse, and David was basically an errand boy."

Hearing this, Suzie's eyes welled with tears. After a long silence, she spoke in a hollow voice. "So, they took someone else's baby and dragged her into their miserable life... just so their own child could live in luxury? They literally stole my destiny..."

Seeing her break down, Oliver quickly grabbed a tissue and handed it to her. For a moment, he had no idea what to say to comfort her.

Taking a shaky breath, Suzie began. "You remember that paternity test? The one that said Jamie wasn't the kids' father? I left before the results of the second test came back. I knew if the second one proved he was the father, he'd tear my children away from me the second he saw me. So... I let him believe the lie."

Oliver frowned but didn't interrupt, waiting for her to finish.

"Not long ago, I was around him and secretly managed to get a strand of his hair. I paid a fortune to have it expedited, and the results are in. He is their biological father! Oliver, tell me, what are the odds of a high-end lab messing up a DNA test? I suspect... I suspect someone tampered with the first one, but I've racked my brain, and I still have no idea who."
