The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 440

They sat like that for a few minutes. After furiously typing at his computer, the doctor suddenly announced he needed to run to another department and hurried out the door with the nurse.

Watching them leave, Suzie frowned. Assuming they'd be gone for a while, she stood up, planning to go check on the kids.

But the second she stood up, Jamie grabbed her arm and pulled her right back into the chair.

"Sit down. We need to talk," he ordered, his tone commanding but calm.

"We have absolutely nothing to talk about," Suzie replied coldly.

Jamie furrowed his brow, his deep voice carrying a hint of a grievance. "I did just do you a massive favor. Is this how you treat a good Samaritan?"

Suzie didn't answer. She honestly didn't know what to say.

Based on Mia's account and the horrific bloodstains covering his shirt, if Zoey truly had a serious medical condition and needed to be rushed to the ER, she owed him a massive debt of gratitude.

Thinking of this, her expression softened significantly.

She pressed her lips together and said quietly, "Speak."

A few seconds later, Jamie's magnetic voice broke the silence.

"Who is the father of the children?"

There was zero emotion in his voice. In fact, he sounded so painfully casual he might as well have been asking, "Did you eat lunch?"

But Suzie's heart plummeted. She had never prepared herself for this exact question, which meant she had zero lies locked and loaded.

She paused, keeping her tone completely neutral. "That is none of your business."

The moment the words left her mouth, Jamie spoke again.

"Is it?"

That slow, drawling "Is it?" sounded exactly like a man who already had all the evidence and was just waiting for a confession.
