"You saw it yourself, Mia. He tried cornering me once or twice and realized it wouldn't work, so now he's pivoting to manipulating kindergarteners. He's supposed to be this terrifying corporate titan, but honestly? He's acting like an absolute child."
Mia bit her lip. A few weeks ago, she would have eagerly joined Suzie in trashing Jamie. But recently, her opinion of him had drastically shifted.
Take yesterday at the hospital, for instance. He held Zoey the entire time. When his assistant Aaron offered to take over, he refused.
When Mia offered, he refused again. While talking to the doctor, he kept Zoey wrapped in his arms, patiently comforting her until the bleeding stopped. And when he finally came out of the exam room, he didn't rest—he immediately scooped up the terrified Zayn and Zeke, telling them funny stories to distract them.
And before that, when he was worried about Suzie's arm, he practically forced her to see a doctor, blending concern with total insistence.
Then there was the banquet... Honestly, Mia felt like Jamie's feelings for Suzie were painfully genuine.
Whatever happened in the past was probably a massive misunderstanding that snowballed into pure hatred, bringing them to this point.
But Mia also knew that Suzie had spent years fighting tooth and nail just to hide from him. Her resolve wasn't something to be taken lightly.
Because of that, Mia didn't know what to say.
Noticing the pots still steaming on the stove and the unwashed fruit in the sink, Mia quickly stepped up. "Don't let him ruin your mood, Suzie. Just do it to make the kids happy. Let me help you finish up, the little ones are probably starving by now."
"Alright. Just take these finished dishes to the dining table. We're pretty much done here."
