The Years Between Signing and Seeing novel Chapter 456

Seeing that making a fuss would only make them more uncomfortable, Suzie didn't push it. She told them to make whatever they wanted and headed back to the dining room.

The second she sat down, Zayn slid a small plate of shrimp toward her. "Mommy, I peeled these for you."

Then Zeke pushed a little dish her way. "You worked so hard cooking, Mommy. I picked out all the most tender celery pieces for you."

Even Zoey, her tiny hand shaking slightly, held out a spoon toward Suzie. "Eat a fish ball, Mommy! But don't put too much mustard on it, you'll get an upset stomach."

Suzie praised each of them, happily accepting their offerings.

Jamie watched the exchange, an unreadable light flickering in his eyes. "I seem to recall you didn't eat those things," he noted slowly.

Suzie ignored him, already happily chewing her food.

Of course he remembered her "disliking" them. Back then, because *he* hated those foods, she had pretended to hate them too.

Not wanting the atmosphere to turn awkward, Mia jumped in with a smile. "Oh, Mr. Baylor, these are actually Suzie's absolute favorites. It's been so long, you must have misremembered."

Jamie nodded, letting the subject drop.

The kids were incredibly hospitable, constantly urging him to try this dish or that, while bragging non-stop about what an amazing chef their mother was.

Throughout the entire dinner, apart from talking to the kids and telling Mia to eat more, Suzie didn't say a single word.

After they finished, the kids begged Suzie to let Jamie stay a little longer because they were almost done building a Lego set.

Suzie agreed.

Since there was no shoot the next day, Mia insisted on heading home. Once she left, Suzie retreated to her study.

She booted up her computer and continued reading up on the lawsuit protocols she had been researching the day before.
